The research component of CHAMPS has focused on evaluating the program's effectiveness in various settings using multiple methodologies.
Research Projects
- CHAMPS I was
a six-month public health model intervention that encouraged seniors living in two low-income congregate housing facilities to increase their physical activity by participating in existing community-based physical
activity classes and programs

- CHAMPS II was
a one-year public health model program offered through a large multispecialty group practice. It focused on community-dwelling seniors with a variety of living situations and transportation issues.
CHAMPS II offered encouragement and information related to exercising

Translating Research Into Practice
- CHAMPS III diffused the research-based CHAMPS II
into three diverse community settings to reach minority (primarily Latino and African American) and lower income seniors.
The goal was to establish an adapted version of the
program that would be offered as an ongoing program by
